DMR Upgrade to British Alvance Fort William Smelter

Back in 2012 Brabourne Ltd supplied a Kenwood Nexedge digital trunked radio solution to British Alcan, as the company was then known. The system provided a reliable and secure radio communications solution. The requirement extended way beyond the confines of the Fort William smelter to include coverage across 30,000 acres of the Highlands.

Fast forward  a dozen years and Brabourne were asked to propose a replacement solution. During the last decade the site has evolved and the wide area requirements have largely disappeared.

A significant area on the Fort William site has been cleared in expectation that a new factory will be built to manufacture down stream products from the aluminium ingots produced on site.

Having studied the available technologies and considered the various radio manufacturers it was decided to deploy a Motorola Capacity Plus digital mobile radio [DMR] system.

This solution retains the trunked capability which the radio users are familiar with and adds a Trbonet despatcher solution to manage alarm calls and allow for locating radio users in the event of an incident.

In addition key managers have been issued with Motorola Wave technology thus allowing managers access to the radio network as and when required.
